Prison Education and Re-Entry Programme

The  Prison Education and Re-Entry Programme was set up by the University of Malta Senate's decision of the 18th June 2015.

The appointed coordinator of the programme is Dr Joseph Giordmaina

Structure:

A Board consisting of the Coordinator and four other members, is appointed by Senate on the recommendation of the Rector, after consultation with the Head of the Department of Education studies and the Dean of the Faculty of Education.

The Chairman is appointed by Senate on the recommendation of Rector chosen from amongst the members of the Board.

The appointment of the coordinator and the members of the Board is for one year, which can be renewed.


The Aims of the Programme are the following:

  1. to undertake, promote, facilitate and coordinate the study of education for prison inmates and their re-entry into society;
  2. to design and support the-delivery of study-units on the study of education for prison inmates and their re-entry into society at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, through the appropriate department/s in the Faculty of Education and other Faculties, Institutes and Centres, including support of supervision of dissertations in the area of the study of education for prison inmates and their re-entry into society;
  3. to collaborate with local and foreign centres, programmes and individuals working in the area of study of education for prison inmates and their re-entry into society for research purposes;
  4. to encourage publication of research on education for prison inmates and their reentry into society;
  5. such other aims which the Faculty of Education may add from time to time.
